Our lives between Bordeaux & Singapore
Taking Over the Vineyard
In 2021, when we took over Château Canon Chaigneau, it was not just a business decision. It was a life decision.
Previously, Marine was working a corporate role at a large firm, while Romik was a wine merchant. Together, we chose to commit ourselves fully to the vineyard in Lalande-de-Pomerol – to the land, the vines, and the responsibility of shaping each vintage.
Taking over the estate was both exhilarating and humbling. You inherit history, but you also shape its future. We immersed ourselves in every detail: walking the parcels, understanding the clay soils, refining harvest decisions, and ensuring that each bottle truly reflected the elegance of our terroir.
Over time, the vineyard became more than work. It became our rhythm, our family project, our shared purpose.
When We Moved to Singapore
Life, however, has a way of opening new chapters.
With two young children, we made another significant decision: to move halfway across the world to Singapore. Leaving Bordeaux where our vineyards, our routines, our familiar landscape lay, was not easy. But Singapore offered something exciting: a dynamic city, a vibrant culture, and a growing appreciation for fine wine.
The transition meant learning new systems, understanding a new market, and adjusting to a very different climate, both personally and professionally. Bordeaux’s quiet vineyard mornings were replaced with the fast pace of city life. Yet our commitment to Château Canon Chaigneau remained constant.
If anything, the move strengthened our connection to it. Being between two worlds deepened our perspective on how our wines travel, how they are enjoyed, and how they fit into different dining cultures.
Our Life Today: Between Two Homes
Today, we are raising our children in Singapore while remaining deeply rooted in Bordeaux.
Our lives move between school runs and vineyard reports, and between Singapore’s hawker centres and the harvest calendar in Lalande-de-Pomerol.
Living here has also changed the way we think about our wines. We’ve discovered how beautifully they pair with Singapore’s cuisine, from rich Beef Rendang to Chilli Crab shared around a table of friends! We’ve come to appreciate how wine becomes part of gatherings, celebrations, and everyday meals in new ways.
At the same time, we continue working very closely with our team in Bordeaux, ensuring that every vintage of Château Canon Chaigneau reflects the care and precision we’ve always believed in.
Looking Forward
Château Canon Chaigneau will always be rooted in Bordeaux. But part of our story now lives in Singapore.
We are grateful to share this journey with you, whether you’ve followed us from France or discovered us here in Asia. Your support allows us to continue this family adventure across continents.
We look forward to welcoming you to our table, and we would truly love to hear from you anytime!
